I am Alec, a trainee psychotherapist in private practice. I am responsible for the personal information you provide regarding your therapy.

What information do I collect
I collect only the information necessary to provide psychotherapy safely and ethically. This may include:
Your preferred (chosen) name and, where applicable, your legal name.
Pronouns (if you choose to provide them).
Date of birth.
Address.
Email address.
Mobile number.
GP details.
Emergency contact details.
Information you provide during therapy.
Brief clinical records and session notes.
Appointment and payment information.
Why I collect your information
Your information is used to:
Provide psychotherapy safely and effectively.
Manage appointments and communicate with you about your therapy.
Meet my professional, ethical and legal responsibilities.
Respond appropriately in exceptional circumstances where there is a serious concern about your safety or the safety of others.
Lawful basis for processing
I process your personal information in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
The lawful bases for processing your information are:
Performance of a contract (providing psychotherapy).
Compliance with legal obligations.
Legitimate interests in managing my practice safely and effectively.
Provision of health care and management of health-related information, where applicable.
Confidentiality and sharing information
Your information will be treated confidentially.
Information will only be shared:

Where there is a serious risk of harm to you or another person.
Where there are safeguarding concerns involving a child or an adult at risk.
During clinical supervision. Information discussed in supervision is anonymised wherever possible.
How your information is stored
I take appropriate steps to keep your information secure. Records are stored using password-protected and encrypted systems, and access is limited to me.
How long I keep your information
Your records will normally be retained for seven years after therapy ends (or longer where required by law or professional guidance), after which they will be securely destroyed.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
Request access to your personal information.
Request correction of inaccurate information.
Request restriction of processing in certain circumstances.
Object to certain types of processing.
Request erasure where applicable under the law.
Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Please note that some rights may be limited where I have legal or professional obligations to retain records.

I use secure third-party services to manage appointments, online sessions and payments. These providers process your information on my behalf in accordance with their own privacy policies and applicable data protection laws.
